What was done
We turned part of an unfinished basement into usable rooms: a dedicated art room, a combined office and library, and a finished hallway. The washer and dryer moved to a more convenient spot, next to a new utility sink and folding station. New wiring, outlets and lighting, R-13 insulation on the exterior walls, drywall, flooring, doors, trim and paint throughout.
Key difficulties
The basement was the family's main storage space, so we built it out zone by zone and moved their belongings around as we went instead of emptying the whole floor. Moving the laundry meant rerouting the water supply and drain lines and running dedicated circuits, all tied into the existing systems.

Framing and layout
We cleared the work areas and framed new partition walls for the art room, the office and library, and the hallway, adjusting door openings so the rooms connect the way the family uses them.

Plumbing, electrical and insulation
We moved the washer and dryer connections, added a utility sink with hot and cold water, ran new wiring, outlets, switches and lighting, and insulated the exterior walls with R-13.
